Pillars of Eternity is set in Eor, a world that slowly crosses the threshold of finding firearms, and the key thing that led to this achievement is the discovery that the soul is not a metaphysical concept, but something that can exactly be measured and defined by a scientific method, leading to a big break between different religious groups.
After death, the souls reincarnate in a new body, which leads to accumulation of fear of all previous owners, and especially gifted individuals become aware of all the previous lives that their soul carries, as well as the soul of the person they come in contact with. After being faced with a sudden supernatural appearance, the protagonist becomes one of the awakened and the power of opportunity lurks in the middle of a conflict he did not even dream of.
Pillars of Eternity is a real-time RPG with a pause option at any time. As was the case at Baldur’s Gate, it is possible to create only one, the main character, while the others join during the game and the total number of members of the group is six. The initial selection determines the start-up equipment and gives the bonus to one of the basic attributes, as well as attributes significantly affect the availability of different choices during the dialogue.
The choice of available races remained essentially the same: Human, Aumaua, Dwarf, Elf, Godlike and Orlan, and they all continue to rely on numerous supporters. Similar to the classes, and a certain deviation from the established norms are chanter and cipher. Currently in the current version of the game there is a certain imbalance because the cipher OP – without problems can turn the strongest bosses and overturn or destroy the weaker opponents with one glance.
At the beginning of the price, the player comes to the posed of the fortification with his dungeon extending over several levels and has one of the better parts of the game. Discoveries can be expanded to new buildings just like in Neverwinter Nights 2, and it is also interesting to send members of the company to various missions that reward their experience points, reputation and money.
Set combat formations as if they had no effect, as the weakest members of the company are always the first kill, regardless of their position on the battlefield. Graphics are in the style of Infinity Engine, but modernized for a new generation of hardware, with three-dimensional characters on 2D prerendered backgrounds.
Pathfinding has dramatically improved and we have finally been spared the characters in the field, and the possibility of free zooming is included. Pillars of Eternity is a solid game, especially for today’s conditions, but definitely not the new Baldur’s Gate.
